Akij Bangladesh makes new investment in high-end tableware

Sacmi-Riedhammer has supplied a second TST kiln for porcelain tableware, more than doubling production to 38 tons per day.

After successfully entering the high-end tableware market, Akij Bangladesh has purchased a second kiln for glost firing at its new tableware plant in Trishal.

The excellent market response received following the first phase of the investment prompted Akij to expand its production to a total of 38 tons/day of fired product, more than double its current output.

The new kiln is a 72-metre-long TST/244/60-G model designed by Sacmi-Riedhammer for firing glazed porcelain in a reducing atmosphere. It is capable of firing 21 tons per day of product with a cycle time of 7 hours and a peak temperature of 1360°C.

Optional features chosen by Akij include advanced settings thanks to inverter-equipped fans, as well as standby fans that come into operation when needed, thereby avoiding production stoppages. The scope of supply also included the transport system for fully automatic handling of the 83 kiln cars.

The TST kiln is equipped with a heat recovery system for pre-heating the combustion air and optimising energy consumption. The excess hot air is recovered and sent to the existing dryers, significantly reducing consumption.
