Coverings, the Ceramic Tiles of Italy awards

10/04/06 - The Assopiastrelle annual press conference was also the occasion for the presenting of the Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Awards, the awards given to North American architects for the best commercial, residential and institutional projects featuring the use of Italian ceramic tiles.

This year the awards went to The Line House in Springfield for the residential category, the San Diego Country regional airport authority for the institutional category and the renovation of the “Bay Section” of the Place Fleur De Lys shopping centre in Quebec, Canada for the commercial category. The jury also gave 3 special mentions to: Rene Gonzalez Architect for their “Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation” project in Miami, Florida, which used more than 1 million Bisazza mosaic tiles; Pappas Design Studio for the BCC/Bramalea City Center project in Montreal, Canada (Mirage ceramic tiles); Richard D. Fairbourn in the Residential category for the extensive renovation and addition to a 1913 home in Central Phoenix, Arizona (tiles from Cooperativa Ceramica d’Imola).

On the evening of 5 April, the 2006 Distributor Award was presented to New Jersey-based distributor Wayne Tile at the Ceramic Tiles of Italy institutional stand.
