The world’s top ceramic tile manufacturers

Ceramic World Review updates the rankings of the 25 world's top ceramic tile groups in 2021. Mohawk Industries, Lamosa and SCG lead the rankings.

Ceramic World Review, in collaboration with MECS, has published the new rankings of the world's largest tile producers, ranked by output volumes to 31/12/2021, as communicated by the companies themselves (or, in a few cases, obtained from public sources or estimated).

The figures for the individual groups in the Top 25 ranking reflect the general strong recovery trend in global tile production that occurred last year. This was widely anticipated amid a generalised return to pre-pandemic output volumes, numerous investments in capacity expansion and a series of major acquisitions conducted by several large groups.

Mohawk Industries remains firmly at the top of the rankings and appears set to maintain its leadership position in 2022 following the acquisition of the Mexican company Vitromex finalised on 3 June 2022.

The Lamosa Group has consolidated its position in second place with a production of almost 200 million sqm in 2021, a 33% increase on 2020 thanks to both the post-pandemic recovery in production and the acquisition in August 2021 of Roca’s tile division, consisting of the two Brazilian plants (Incepa) and the Spanish facility (Belcaire).

In third place is the Thai multinational SCG Ceramics, albeit with production volumes that have remained stable at 2020 levels of 139 million sqm.

Pamesa climbed the rankings to fourth place with an output and production capacity of 101 million sqm (+23%) in 2021 following a series of major plant investments carried out during the year and the acquisition of Azuliber in September 2021. The Spanish group’s total sales of 125 million sqm also pushed up its tile segment revenues to €881.7 million (up 43% on 2020).

Looking through the rankings, we find numerous companies that increased their production capacities and outputs by the same amount last year: Ceramica Carmelo Fior saw an increase of more than 11 million sqm (+15%), while Kajaria Ceramics added 12.5 million sqm to both its capacity and output and posted 18% revenue growth; STN Group reported 11 million sqm growth in capacity and output and a 26% increase in revenues, while Arwana and Saudi Ceramics saw an increase of 6-7 million sqm. Elizabeth on the other hand increased its capacity by 5 million sqm and its output volumes by 11 million sqm (+33%). In general, all the other top-25 companies returned to their pre-Covid production volumes while maintaining the same levels of capacity.

In the lower half of the rankings, Victoria Plc increased its output following the acquisitions made between April and November 2021 (Colli, Santa Maria and Graniser) and also reported strong revenue growth (+31.6% in the ceramic segment alone).

Finally, Grupo Halcon has entered the top 25 after expanding its production capacity from 32 to 50 million sqm in 2021 due to the acquisition of Cicogres and the expansion of its production lines.
