The Sacmi Group posted record economic and financial results in 2021 with consolidated revenues back at pre-Covid levels of more than €1.53 billion (up 40% on 2020) and strong growth in EBIT and EBITDA (€82 million and €145 million, respectively).

These results, together with the solid financial position, confirm the resilience of the group’s business model.

According to Chairman Paolo Mongardi, the year’s extraordinary results stemmed from

“Sacmi’s ability to hold its course in heavy seas, ensuring continuity of production and excellent levels of customer service throughout the health crisis”.

The sharp increase in revenue was largely a result of a record-breaking performance in the Tiles segment, which posted a remarkable 99% increase in sales. Whiteware also performed well thanks to the general market recovery and the completion of numerous projects that had been put on hold during the Covid emergency. The Advanced Materials (refractories, metal and lithium-ion battery components), Rigid Packaging, Beverage and Packaging & Chocolate divisions also performed very strongly.

Sacmi strengthened its position in all the most important international markets as investments bounced back across Europe and the Americas. Despite very strong competition, it also performed well in Asia, where it confirmed its role as a key technology provider both in the traditional ceramics and packaging sectors and in emerging areas such as components for the electric vehicle sector, carbon and advanced ceramics.

During 2021, Sacmi focused on research into innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions and filed a series of patents, reaching a total of almost 5,000 over the course of its history.  It also continued its educational activities in cooperation with schools, universities and research facilities and conducted more than 23,700 hours of employee training through the Sacmi Academy.

During the first few months of 2022, Sacmi has continued to invest in innovation and skills, focusing in particular on the development of professional expertise in the field of digitalisation and the ecological transition.
