New construction in the Asian Games Village in the lead up to the Olympics

New developments are planned for the Beijing Asian Games Village, first built for the 1990 Asian Games. Over the last ten years, in contrast with the stagnation of the construction industry in the Chinese capital city, the area has experienced considerable development into a high status residential zone in the northern suburbs of the city.
A further expansion, according to the Italian Trade Commission (ICE), is programmed for the next years, in the run up to the 2008 Olympic Games, to be hosted by China. The Asian Games Village is considered to be a zone of strategic interest by Beijing, highly attractive to businessmen, and potential investors are particularly interested in the outlying parts of the zone, especially to the north. The area - which has a good mix of high rise towers, a low percentage of residential complexes and a number of other categories of building - has real estate prices running from 240 to 2000 dollars per square metre.
