Brazil, ceramic manufacturing area expanding28 November 2002 - The Brazilian Ceramic Association (ABC) will be holding its Annual Congress in the State of Paraiba from 15 to 18 June 2003 with the objective of promoting the diffusion of ceramic technology in the northeast of the country. This area contains large deposits of raw materials, an expanding market and good export potential, all of which would be favourable to the birth of a sector cluster. Companies producing ceramic tiles, minerals, sanitaryware, technical ceramics, glazes and frits have already begun operating in the Paraiba area and are currently undergoing expansion.
The city chosen for the meeting is Joao Pessoa, which is well served by plane connections and is close to important centres such as Recife, Natal, Campina Grande, Caruaru, Fortaleza, Aracaju and Salvador. The Congress, organised in cooperation with the Universidade Federal da Paraiba, will be held in the Jose Lins do Rego cultural centre. The three days of the congress will see the presentation of technical and scientific reports by national and international experts (the best of which will be presented with an award from the ABC), focus seminars on the development of the ceramic industry, and technical communications from companies on products and services.
