Focus on Coverings, Four Mexican companies join the TCA

24/03/04 - Four of the largest Mexican ceramic companies – Grupo Porcelanite, Interceramic, Lamosa and Vitromex - have joined the TCA (Tile Council of America). The TCA, which initially comprised the US and Canadian manufacturers, now represents about 80% of the production of the entire North American continent.
The association’s newly expanded membership was announced at a press conference today and is reflected in a new logo and the new name “Tile Council of North America”. The association will now have extra vigour in its activities of bolstering member companies’ quality standards, publishing guidelines for correct installation, and training tile layers and sales personnel.

“This is an exciting opportunity and an historic event,” commented Victor Almeida, CEO of Interceramic. The four new members of the TCA together account for over 80% of Mexico’s production capacity, equivalent to more than 2.4 billion square feet in 2004. The Mexican companies’ objective is to reinforce their position in the US and Canadian markets and to provide a constructive contribution to the growth of the ceramic industry in North America.

After ten years as executive director of the TCA, Bob Daniels has handed over the reins to Eric Astrachan (pictured), who was a board member of TCA from 1990 and technical director in 2001, before being nominated deputy executive director in 2003.
