I-GV by System Ceramics: The innovative in-house handling solutions for the ceramic industry

This proprietary solution developed entirely in-house is redefining handling standards in the sector.

In today’s increasingly competitive global landscape, ceramic manufacturers are focusing on industrial automation as a way of improving critical success factors such as operational efficiency and production continuity. With this in mind, Coesia Group member company System Ceramics has chosen to invest in a proprietary solution developed entirely in-house that is redefining handling standards in the sector: I-GV (Intelligent Guided Vehicle).

Technological evolution to meet market challenges

Ceramic manufacturers the world over are facing increasingly complex logistics challenges. The need to guarantee 24/7 operational continuity, optimised material flows and compliance with stricter safety standards is fuelling demand for advanced technological solutions. In this scenario, technological collaborations must evolve beyond traditional supply relationships to become strategic alliances capable of delivering immediate technical support, operational flexibility and customised solutions.

Developed as a practical response to these challenges, System Ceramics’ I-GV guarantees an even more efficient logistics process that combines the required standards of excellence with extensive expertise and superior customer support.

I-GV: a solution for every requirement

System Ceramics’ I-GV range includes a series of advanced autonomous laser-guided vehicles designed to handle all types and sizes of load units within production areas and factory warehouses and capable of interacting effortlessly and continuously with all storage systems.

The decision to develop this technology in-house is part of a precise strategy: to maintain complete control over every phase of the process from design to after-sales service, thereby ensuring the very best production performance and all-round collaboration with customers.

The in-house I-GV family consists of three main models:

  • I-GV OUTRIGGER
    • Medium: lifting capacity up to 2,500 kg

    • Big Size: lifting capacity up to 5,000 kg

  • I-GV CW (Counterweight)
    • Medium: lifting capacity up to 1,800 kg

    • Big Size: lifting capacity up to 4,000 kg

  • I-GV Box, with lifting capacity up to 15 tonnes.

This versatile and robust range is capable of handling load units of all types and sizes, from standard pallets to large boxes, and offers maximum flexibility without compromising performance.

The Intelligent Heart: Next Generation System Manager

At the heart of the System Ceramics’ I-GV is the Next Generation System Manager, a proprietary software platform powered by AI algorithms that optimise operational flows.

It offers numerous practical advantages:

  • Route optimisation: predictive analysis of handling patterns to reduce downtime;
  • Deadlock reduction: advanced algorithms that eliminate bottlenecks liable to block production;
  • Increase in overall efficiency: measurable increase in overall logistics efficiency;
  • System customisation: automatic adaptation to workload variations.

This highly effective traffic management system offers flexibility and custom configurations to meet different plant requirements. It also enhances operator safety in line with the latest ISO standards without compromising functionality.

Safety and sustainability

Safety is a fundamental aspect of I-GV’s design.

Each vehicle is equipped with an encoder to guarantee a certain speed and maintain safety at all times. The dimensions of perimeter safety zones are modulated using data originating from certified sensors, while integrated 3D perception cameras detect obstacles in real time, helping avoid potential collisions. The system complies with the latest ISO safety standards.

Sustainability is another strategic priority of the development strategy adopted by System Ceramics, which has chosen to equip the I-GV with lithium batteries, an innovative choice that offers significant advantages over traditional lead batteries:

  • Rapid charging: full recharge in 1 hour for 8 hours of use (compared to 8 hours of charging for lead batteries with the same duration);
  • Higher energy density: same power with smaller size and weight;
  • Longer lifespan: larger number of charge/discharge cycles;
  • Zero maintenance: no servicing required;
  • Lower environmental impact: clean and safe with zero emissions during charging, no need for ventilation systems.

Customer support: making a difference

System Ceramics applies the same innovative approach to customer service as it does to technology and machinery development.

To guarantee uninterrupted operation of every vehicle, the company offers a 24/7 technical support service, a skilled and professional team ready to respond rapidly to any need or emergency.

System Ceramics is a flexible partner when it comes to technology upgrades, offering a range of solutions tailored to the specific context and providing the necessary support to upgrade both recent and older systems with the latest innovations.

Simplified layout management and a calibration wizard make the system easy to use, while the alarm log provides valuable information for preventive monitoring.

System Ceramics: the partner for the future of ceramics

With an expanded product portfolio and growing expertise, especially in end-of-line automation, System Ceramics is now a key partner for integrated logistics solutions.

In a market where automation is no longer optional but a necessity, I-GV stands out as an Italian-built solution that combines:

  • advanced in-house technological innovation,
  • operational reliability backed by consolidated expertise,
  • environmental sustainability based on informed and responsible technological choices,
  • long-term partnerships with continuous, dedicated support.

The future of industry requires solutions that not only automate processes, but make them smarter, safer and more sustainable. System Ceramics has chosen to lead this transition by developing proprietary technologies that meet the ceramic industry’s needs.

The I-GV is more than just a technological solution; it reflects System Ceramics’ commitment to being a strategic partner and embodies a customer-centred vision where innovation, reliability and service come together to deliver lasting value.
