Green technologies for more sustainable ceramic processes

The next webinar organised by Ceramic World Web for TecnaNext.com will feature talks by Sacmi, LB, EFI, Solar Turbines and Unilin Technologies. The event will be livestreamed on 5 May in Italian and on 6 May in English

What technologies should be adopted to reduce the environmental impact of production processes in the ceramic industry? And in the future, what new solutions will be capable of guaranteeing more sustainable factories and how effective will they be?

These highly topical themes will be discussed at the next webinar in the “Ceramics: what’s next?” series entitled “Green technologies for more sustainable ceramic processes” to be livestreamed in two sessions on the Tecna Next platform:

We will be accompanied in this analysis of the ceramic production line by leading companies in their respective fields, namely Sacmi, LB Officine Meccaniche, Solar Turbines, EFI and Unilin Technologies.

Claudio Ricci (Sacmi) will give an overview of the issue of emissions in the ceramic industry, with particular reference to the new 2030 reduction targets set by the EU as part of the Emissions Trading System. Limiting his analysis to the most energy-intensive phases of the ceramic production process, Ricci will present the solutions currently offered by Sacmi to reduce the environmental impact of the process and will suggest a few that may be developed over the next 3-5 years.

Next, Lorenzo Battaglioli (LB Officine Meccaniche) will describe the characteristics of Migratech Hybrid, the new hybrid body preparation system designed for companies that need to increase their ceramic body production despite already having a wet preparation plant, as well as for companies that decide to eliminate the spray dryer to reduce energy consumption, production costs and environmental impact.

Two talks will be devoted to green solutions in the field of digital decoration. The first, given by Jasmine Geerinckx (Unilin Technologies) and Alan Nappa (Sicer), will focus on Ecolor eco-friendly solvent-based inks which are capable of significantly reducing harmful and odorous emissions while guaranteeing high printing performance. Ecolor is a technology that Unilin Technologies licenses to digital ink manufacturers and was developed by Sicer (Unilin’s partner in this project), which already markets the innovative .LE branded materials.

Luca Berti (EFI) will discuss application technologies, emphasising the environmental benefits of water-based digital printing technology, which is able to reduce emissions, waste and energy and water consumption.

The webinar will be concluded with a talk by Benoit Fecamp (Solar Turbines), who will present the latest news and developments in the field of cogeneration with natural gas turbines and discuss the future use of hydrogen as a fuel for turbogenerators. Depending on how and when hydrogen becomes available, this development in the field of cogeneration may further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The theme of energy saving in ceramic processes will be further discussed in the following “Ceramics: what’s next?” webinar to be held on 26 and 27 May.
